#tamilnadu,#temple,#perumal, #alwars Talaicchengadu Divyadesam (also known as Thalai Sanga Naanmathiyam or Sri Nanmadhia Perumal Temple) is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is revered as one of the 108 Divya Desams. 1. Principal Deities Moolavar (Presiding Deity): Sri Nanmadhiya Perumal (also referred to as Vensudar Perumal). He is in a standing posture facing east, blessing devotees with Abhaya Hastam (gesture of protection) along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. A unique feature is that the Lord sports a crescent moon on his head, akin to Lord Shiva, reflecting cosmic unity. Utsavar (Processional Deity): Vensudar Thayar (Consort): Chenkamalavalli (Thalai Sanga Nachiyar) 2. Temple Legends & Significance The Chandra Dosha Parikara Sthalam: The temple is famous as a powerful planetary remedy site for Chandra Dosha (afflictions related to the Moon god). According to Hindu mythology, the Moon god (Chandra) suffered from a curse (either due to his infatuation with Brihaspati's wife Tara or his partiality toward Rohini). To cleanse himself of sins and diseases, Chandra undertook a strict three-phase penance. After worshiping at Srirangam and Thiru Indhalur, he completed his final phase of atonement at Talaicchengadu. Lord Vishnu appeared before him on a Chandra Vimanam and fully liberated him from his curse. Etymology: The name Thalaicchengadu originated from Thalai Sanga Naanmathiyam. In ancient times, the region was heavily known for white conches (Sangu) because of its close proximity to the ancient Chola port city of Poompuhar. 3. Architecture and Highlights Vimanam: The sanctum is built under the Chandra Vimanam. Theertham (Temple Tank): Chandra Pushkarini. It is believed that bathing in this sacred tank cleanses devotees of mental distress, karmic afflictions, and lunar curses. Inscriptions: The temple walls contain several historical inscriptions dating back over a thousand years, reflecting patronage from imperial Chola rulers like Rajaraja Chola and Rajendra Chola. Azhwar Mangalasasanam: The temple is sanctified by the hymns of Thirumangai Azhwar in his Periya Thirumozhi and Periya Thirumadal. Saint Thirugnanasambandar has also mentioned the adjacent Shiva temple, highlighting the ancient heritage of the area. 4.
