Definition, characteristics and benefits: A silvopastoral system is a way of combining trees with pastures and animals within a plot. Trees provide shade for livestock, improve the fertility and physical conditions of the soil, and allow additional economic income in the medium and long term as wood. Improved pastures produce more and better quality forage compared to native pastures, and, when well managed, they maintain or improve soil fertility.
