Why hasn’t The Elder Scrolls had a new single-player adventure since Skyrim?
Former Skyrim co-lead Kurt Kuhlmann thinks Fallout: New Vegas may be part of the answer. Obsidian’s take on Fallout sparked years of comparisons with Bethesda’s games, and Kuhlmann wonders whether Todd Howard wanted to avoid that same debate around The Elder Scrolls. That’s his interpretation—not confirmation that a spin-off was proposed or blocked.
In this video, I talk about the opportunities Bethesda may have missed while focusing on major releases: smaller stories in Tamriel, substantial expansions, and what a project like Enderal shows creators can build using Skyrim as a foundation. I also give Elder Scrolls Online and Oblivion Remastered their due. I’m glad those games exist; I’m still waiting for a new single-player adventure.
Would you trust another studio to make an Elder Scrolls game while Bethesda works on The Elder Scrolls VI? Where in Tamriel would you want it set?
