The BOOX Picco might be the best portable reading experience I've ever used. But is it worth buying?
Over the past six months, I've read 12 books and hundreds of articles on mini e-readers, and the BOOX Picco has quickly become my favourite. It's a new device from a more established e-reader company, and that experience really shows.
For me, the appeal of a dedicated e-reader is simple: having something to read on instead of reaching for my phone. These tiny devices make it easier to fit a few pages into everyday life, whether I'm out for a coffee, waiting around, or winding down at night.
The Picco gets a lot right. It has a front light, USB-C charging, a solid build, and software that makes it surprisingly easy to use. It's the kind of device I've wanted from this category for a while, although there are still a few things I'd change.
With more pocket-sized E Ink readers appearing, including the XTEINK X3, X4 Classic, and X4 Pro, there's finally some competition in the mini e-reader space. The BOOX Picco offers an interesting alternative, especially if you're looking for a compact, distraction-free reading device that you can carry everywhere.
In this review, I share what it's actually like to read on the BOOX Picco, how it compares to other mini e-readers, what it gets right, and where it still falls short.
If you're looking for a small e-reader to help you read more and spend less time on your phone, this might be the one to get.
