Australia has one of the largest clean industry pipelines in the world. So why has only one project reached a final investment decision? Kumbi Gutsa (Senior Manager, Cyan Ventures) and James Boyle (Australia Country Lead, Mission Possible Partnership) lead the Clean Deal Monitor. It tracks commercial-scale projects in green iron and steel, hydrogen and ammonia, and low-carbon liquid fuels, and briefs government and industry on what is moving and what is stuck. They join Joy McConnochie of Cyan Ventures to go through the latest results. What we cover • What the Clean Deal Monitor is and who uses it • How it links to MPP's Global Project Tracker • Where Australia's pipeline stands: about 70 projects, about 44 in active development, one FID • Why Orica's FID is not a guide to the rest of the pipeline • Low-carbon liquid fuels and electric arc furnace steel are moving. Hydrogen, ammonia and iron making are slower • What developers say: offtake first, financing second • Why demand for green commodities needs policy support, and the WA LNG example • The missing middle in development capital • First-of-a-kind risk in construction capital • What the pipeline could look like in five years, and what to watch this year Links • Mission Possible Partnership: https://missionpossiblepartnership.org/ • MPP Global Project Tracker: https://missionpossiblepartnership.or... • Episode 2, with Faustine Delasalle of MPP: https://cyanventures.com.au/podcast/e... • Show notes: https://cyanventures.com.au/podcast/e...
