This two-lane federal road is named in honor of Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second Prime Minister who was also known as Malaysia's Father of Development. Coded as FT12, it is part of the Asian Highway Network 142, a cooperative project among countries in Asia to improve their connectivity. The highway was gazetted as Federal Route 12 on 19 Oct 1989. The Kilometre Zero of Federal Route 12 is located at Segamat, Johor, at its intersection with Federal Route 1.
