Be Gentle (Poems in Progress—10/11/26)

Can you say tree, leaf, sage? You echo back “good morning” when I say it to you over and over, your little body growing heavier up the hills. A bur oak is covered on one side in green. I take your index that you use to notice the world and help you put it on the moss. You are so much gentler than I am. When did I lose that? Down the hill and back to the car, the breeze carries both of us to sleep.
