Cows leave behind mountains of manure every day. Most of it ends up on fields, but some of it is collected, washed, boiled and beaten into pulp, then formed by hand into thick, beautiful sheets of paper.
Why does it work? A cow's diet is full of cellulose, the same plant fibre that every sheet of paper is made of, and not all of it is digested. In this video we follow the whole process, step by step: collecting and sun-drying the dung, washing out everything that isn't fibre, boiling it until it is clean and odourless, beating it into pulp with recycled cotton, forming sheets with a mould and deckle, pressing, drying, sizing, and finally crafting notebooks, envelopes and gifts.
