Part I of the DARKWARD Prequel. Before the psychosis, before she found the heavens to be empty, before she married the night, there was a girl who simply wanted to be heard. This is the beginning of the DARKWARD saga. She is trapped in a household consumed by parental conflict, growing up between shifting loyalties, unspoken rules, and accusations that were never hers to bear. While her parents wage their private war, she slowly disappears into the spaces they leave behind. Neither side offers refuge. Neither voice leaves room for her own. Her individuality becomes something to suppress, her ambitions something to diminish, and her sense of self something she learns to distrust. She becomes a silent witness to a war she cannot end, sometimes forgotten entirely, sometimes dragged into battles she never chose. Eventually, silence begins to seem preferable to being heard. But what begins as a longing for peace will become something far more dangerous. As she withdraws from the world around her, Bellatrix takes the first steps toward severing the emotions that make her vulnerable. The girl who once struggled to find a place in her own home will eventually become something that no longer belongs to the world that shaped her. *This is where her story begins.* She did not begin as a monster. She was made in the quiet spaces between other people's wars. And this is the story of how she learned to disappear, until there was almost nothing left to save. This song is for all of us that have felt invisible, maybe even disposable, in a place that was supposed to be home. They spoke in circles, sharp and low, Of things I wasn't meant to know! I knew the floorboards by their sound, And where the quiet could be found. This war of theirs had no front line, Each empty room concealed a mine! For hours I could pass unseen, While they rehearsed another scene. But when the verdict had to fall, My name was written on the wall. THEY DREW THE LINES! THEY MOVED THE WALLS! I learned to brace before the fall. NO SIDE TO TAKE! NO GROUND TO CLAIM! Yet every crack still bore my name. I BIT MY TONGUE! I CLOSED MY EYES! And learned to live between their lies. THE HOUSE WAS LOUD! MY VOICE WAS SMALL! Until I made no sound at all. They asked which story I believed, And watched for signs they'd been deceived. A nod for him, a glance for her, And every certainty would blur! I learned to weigh each little word, To say less than I thought I'd heard. The table looked the same by day, The sharpest things all swept away! One day my silence counted wise, The next it passed for practiced lies. They set the terms and called them fair, And left me holding empty air. They chose the colors I should wear, And called it love, and called it care. The books I read, the songs I played, Were measured by the plans they'd made! Each time I reached the mark they drew, Another rose, just out of view. I practiced every proper line, Till all their voices sounded mine! Their voices rose, their voices fell, I knew the rhythm far too well. Give me silence, let me fade, Beyond the lines that they have made. THEY DREW THE LINES! THEY MOVED THE WALLS! I stopped responding to their calls. NO SIDE TO TAKE! NO GROUND TO CLAIM! I let the silence take my name. I BIT MY TONGUE! I CLOSED MY EYES! No more defending borrowed lies. THE HOUSE WAS LOUD! THE LIGHT GREW PALE! I watched the final colors fail. I'll let the last bright signal cease, And call the silence in me peace!
