Baaba Maal & Daande Leñol - Sidiki - Live at Afrika Festival Hertme 2026

Baaba Maal & Daande Leñol - Senegal Live at Afrika Festival Hertme - The Netherlands Date of performance - July 5, 2026 On Sunday, July 5, the Afrika Festival Hertme will welcome Senegalese singer and musician Baaba Maal. With his exceptional voice and broad musical perspective, he has long been regarded as one of the most significant representatives of West African music on the international stage. Growing up in a modest village in northern Senegal, Baaba Maal evolved into an artist with a global reach. He first caught the attention of European audiences in the mid-1980s with the acoustic album *Djam Leelii*, recorded alongside guitarist Mansour Seck. Although this understated beginning might not have immediately suggested an adventurous international career, Baaba Maal continued to develop musically and push boundaries. His curiosity and openness toward other styles and technologies led to collaborations with a diverse range of artists, including Brian Eno, Tony Allen, Macka B, Taj Mahal, and Mumford & Sons. Through these projects, he has consistently managed to place traditional African music within a contemporary context, all while remaining deeply connected to his roots.
