In order to keep the holiday as cheap as possible while still enjoying it, we drive. Rough outline is
Leave home in Harrogate 4pm Friday - arrive Kent hotel Friday evening c.9pm
Leave hotel Saturday morning 3:45am for the channel tunnel in Folkestone, arriving in Calais before 7am
Drive through France to arrive in Switzerland at c5pm after stocking up on fresh food at local supermarkets
Enjoy 7 nearly full days of skiing
Leave Switzerland at about 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon
Arrive at a hotel in France at about 9pm Saturday
Depart the hotel 7am to drive to Calais for a midday ferry
Drive back to Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon
It keeps costs down as we only really have to pay:
Tunnel / ferry crossings
Fuel for the car
Necessary insurance (travel with winter sports cover and motor with European cover)
Food (self catering)
Lift passes
Accommodation in the resort for 1 week
Hotel en route each way
All in, this cost us about £2,300 for the 2 of us, which I think is very reasonable given Switzerland 🇨🇭 is known as an expensive country.
