Stephanie Mills Night Games (single version)

Wow! Can't believe this is my first Stephanie Mills post, considering her discography is one of the most abundant in my music collection. At any rate, Night Games was the second single from Mills' 1981 album, 'Stephanie'. It, like the two previous albums, did achieve gold status. It was critically acclaimed, but I didn't think it had as long of a shelf life as the two previous releases. This single version is particularly important to me because it was the only version I'd heard until I bought the album when I was in high school. Simply put, I was not fond of the album version--maybe because I was so used to hearing the single version. I think the album version is way to over-the-top melodramatic with all that uncalled-for-yelling that really berates the integrity of the ballad. Again, I'm not knocking the song--just the album version was not what I'd hope to hear. At any rate, here is one my favorite jukebox records from my second grade in elementary school: Night Games, edited back to it's original US single version. Edit taken from the CD "Stephanie"--available via UMG Japan. (although out of print..it's not hard to find). Btw: I think this song peaked at #33 R&B Billboard. That's a decent showing for a song with this tempo during that period. Dayparting was probably difficult for this one. Enjoy! I do not own this sound recording.
