On March 3, 2025, I came across a post on Facebook of a Belgian Draft Horse gelding and a donkey on the ship to slaughter list at Wish Upon A Horse in McLean, Texas. This gelding still had shoes on so he was worked all the way till the day he was dumped at the kill pen. I felt this horse deserved a second chance and a place to retire. While looking at him on the website, I saw there was also a super sweet John donkey that needed to be rescued as well. We did a quick fundraiser for the gelding and the donkey and raised the money we needed for their bail and transport. When I went to pay the bail for the two, I was informed that the donkey was bonded with another donkey that he came in with. We couldn't leave his best friend behind so we ended up rescuing two donkeys and a Belgian Draft horse gelding.
This video is all of their story since coming to the farm last week and how they are doing. We hadn't had a chance to make this announcement on YouTube yet about these 3 because of the rescue of the Arkansas horses.
Also, this week, we had a donor pay the bail for a Belgian Draft horse mare that was in Stroud Oklahoma at a kill pen. We made her announcement in the previous video posted this week. She arrived here on Wednesday and I included her arrival in this video for everyone to see!
We have a fundraiser going for all the medical bills for the 69 equines we have rescued since the beginning of September 2024. We could definitely use your support with this fundraiser as well. All the details of the fundraiser along with copies of the medical bills are on the Big Hoof Foundations website.
We have also created a fundraiser for feed! With soon to be 80 horses and 12 donkeys on the farm, we need all the help we can get with feeding the herd and giving them the retirement life they deserve!
All the details of these 2 fundraisers are at www.bighooffoundation.org

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.
We are feeding the herd round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 6 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each. Our special needs horses also eat Alfa-Pro which is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.

The herd also eats fresh alfalfa and they eat 4 bales per day. If you would like to send the horses a gift of alfalfa you can do that through Mauls Feed and Seed. We use Mauls for alfalfa because it is grown locally here in Amarillo and they are priced the best in town.
