I visited Agbogbloshie in Accra, one of Ghana’s most polluted and environmentally challenged areas, to witness the massive waste heap and the government’s evacuation exercise. The site is estimated to contain about 1 million tonnes of waste, with engineers indicating that the evacuation could take approximately 90 days. President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and other government officials were present as the evacuation officially commenced.
