This song uses a Confederate soldier defeated in the Civil War as its narrator, railing against the North, the United States, and postwar Reconstruction policies in the South. The narrator insists that “even in defeat, I am not ashamed of my rebellion” and that he wants neither pardon nor reconciliation, exaggerating the defiant pride of the Confederate side. It is important, however, not to assume that the song simply expresses the author’s own sincere feelings. Dr. Joseph M. Thompson, a scholar, has suggested that Innes Randolph, who is credited as the author, may have written it to satirize stubborn white Southerners. Thompson also argues that the satire was taken seriously and that the song was passed down as one sung by Confederate sympathizers. In other words, we need to keep in mind both the possibility that the song was written as satire and the history of its being received as a song that bitterly resents defeat. An analysis that takes both into account reveals the song’s complexity all the more clearly. ************************** 【The channel of phaeo2000 (Le canal de phaeo2000) Videos of Vocaloid Songs】 　《ボーカロイドで制作した歌曲一般の紹介動画集》    / @phaeo2000   【The channel of Phaeo-Other-Songs (Le canal de Phaeo-Other-Songs) Videos of Vocaloid Songs】00-Other Songs 　《童謡・アニメーションソング・賛歌・その他：ボーカロイドで制作した歌曲の紹介動画集》    / @phaeo-other-songs   【The channel of Phaeo-Popular-Songs (Le canal de phaeo2000) Videos of Vocaloid Songs】10-Popular Songs 　《国内外のポピュラーソング：ボーカロイドで制作した歌曲の紹介動画集》    / @phaeo-popular-songs   【The channel of Phaeo-Social＆Military Songs (Le canal de Phaeo-Social＆MilitarySongs)Videos of Vocaloid Songs】20-Social ＆ Military Songs 　《社会派歌曲・労働組合運動歌・軍歌・戦時歌謡：ボーカロイドで制作した歌曲の紹介動画集》    / @socialmilitarysongs   【The channel of Phaeo-Political & Stirical Songs (Le canal de Phaeo-Political & Stirical Songs) Videos of Vocaloid Songs】30-Political ＆ Satirical Songs 　《革命歌・政治的歌曲・替え歌・社会風刺歌曲：ボーカロイドで制作した歌曲の紹介動画集》    / @politicalsatiricalsongs   ************************** 【Hatsune Miku】南北戦争軍歌; O I'm a Good Old Rebel；Civil War Song; 1863-1865【Vocaloid 6】新規AI画像；初音ミク；ボーカロイド6；ボカロ    • 【Hatsune Miku】南北戦争軍歌; O I'm a Good Old Reb...   【Avanna】南北戦争軍歌； O I'm a Good Old Rebel 1863-1865；Civil War Song【Vocaloid 3】アバナ    • 【Avanna】南北戦争軍歌； O I'm a Good Old Rebel 186...   【Hatsune Miku】南北戦争軍歌；O I'm a Good Old Rebel 1867；Civil War Song【Vocaloid 3】初音ミク    • 【Hatsune Miku】南北戦争軍歌；O I'm a Good Old Rebe...   ************************** 【Playlist: Vocaloid】Hatsune Miku 初音ミク 【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Hatsune Miku  初音ミク (Vocaloid)   【Playlist: Vocaloid】AI Hatsune Miku ;AI初音ミク【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • AI_Hatsune Miku （Vicaloid6;AI_初音ミク）   【Playlist: Vocaloid】Avanna (English) アバナ【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Avanna (English) アバナ (Vocaloid)   ************************** 【Playlist: Vocaloid】Vocaloid 6（ボーカロイド6；AIボーカロイド）【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Vocaloid 6（ボーカロイド6；AIボーカロイド）   【Playlist: Vocaloid】Vocaloid 5（ボーカロイド5）【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Vocaloid 5（ボーカロイド5）   【Playlist: Vocaloid】Vocaloid 4（ボーカロイド4）【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Vocaloid 4（ボーカロイド4）   【Playlist: Vocaloid】Vocaloid 3（ボーカロイド3）【再生リスト：ボーカロイド】    • Vocaloid 3（ボーカロイド3）   ************************** O I'm a Good Old Rebel． 1. O I'm a good old rebel, Now that's just what I am, For this "fair Land of Freedom" I do not care AT ALL; I'm glad I fit against it-- I only wish we'd won And I don't want no pardon For anything I done. 2. I hates the Constitution, This Great Republic, too, I hate the Freedman's Buro, In uniforms of blue; I hates the nasty eagle, With all his braggs and fuss, The lyin', thievin' Yankees, I hates 'em wuss and wuss. 3. I hates the Yankee nation And everything they do, I hates the Declaration Of Independence too; I hates the glorious Union-- 'Tis dripping with our blood-- I hates the striped banner, I fit it all I could.
