Three days in Kanazawa with Ellie. Cafés we kept coming back to, one of Japan's three great gardens, a centuries-old seafood market, and a chaya district that turned even quieter in the rain. Ellie discovered capsule machines and companion robots — both became immediate loves. Chapters 0:00 Opening 0:20 Day 1 — arriving in Kanazawa 1:36 Day 2 — cafés, Kenrokuen, and a mall afternoon 9:06 Day 3 — Omicho Market and the chaya streets A few notes from the trip: — Kumu Kanazawa by The Share Hotels is an easy stay for a young family — clean rooms with a quiet design sensibility — Cubby Hole became our daily café; we tried most of the menu across several visits, and the young couple who run it speak excellent English and welcome you in like family (expect a line) — Ishiura Shrine is small and beautifully quiet — a soft start to the morning — Kenrokuen is one of Japan's three great gardens, and it earns the title — it would deserve a whole day, but we left when Ellie was done — Studio Cafe by D's Kitchen — the kind of fresh-ingredient meal you start planning a next trip around — A mall afternoon went a long way with a little one: indoor playground → Gachagacha no Mori (so many capsule machines) → Tsutaya, where Ellie spent time with the companion robots (I almost brought one home) — Omicho Market has centuries behind it; we ate everything we could carry — The chaya district in the rain has a quietness you can hear — a little Kyoto, with far fewer people — Hakuichi Higashiyama's gold-leaf soft serve lives up to the reputation Where we stayed Kumu Kanazawa by The Share Hotels · Kanazawa · 9/10 Where we ate (Sundae Score) Cubby Hole · Kanazawa · 10/10 — our daily café Studio Cafe by D's Kitchen · Kanazawa · 9.8/10 Omicho Market (the stalls we tried) · Omicho · 9.8/10 Hakuichi Higashiyama · Higashi Chaya · 9.5/10 — gold-leaf soft serve Handmade Udon Kineya · Kanazawa · 8.8/10 Kanbayashi Chaho · Kanazawa · 8.5/10 — gold-leaf ice cream & matcha cake Hotel breakfast at Kumu · 7/10 — average for the price Instagram: @sundae_travel New slow days every few weeks. however it is, it is. ✿ #kanazawa #japan #kenrokuen #omichomarket #higashichaya #chayadistrict #japanwithkids #japanwithababy #familytravel #slowtravel #japantravel
