The final chapter of Jonah draws a powerful contrast between God's anger and human anger, God's love and human love, and God's heart and the human heart. The Gospel truth that saturates this chapter is that God not only wants to change our circumstances; He wants to change our hearts, giving us His perspective and teaching us to love what He loves. God confronts Jonah with three heart problems: 1. Misplaced Anger (vv 1-4) Resenting God's compassion - when our hearts drift, we start to resent the very compassion of God that saved us Rejecting God's character - misplaced anger causes us to know God's character in our heads while despising His character in our hearts Refusing God's care - sometimes what makes us angry is not what happened, but what we believe should have happened Application: Anger can be a spiritual diagnostic tool that reveals what our hearts are worshiping. Sometimes God allows our anger to surface because He wants to show us where our hearts are out of alignment with His. Action Step: If you want mercy, grace, forgiveness, patience, and another chance when you are guilty, first learn to offer others the same when they are guilty. Appeal: A heart transformed by the gospel should become a heart that reflects the heart of God and sees others through God's eyes.
