00:16 Introduction. The Gianni Versace Exhibition in Paris.
00:50 Why women's fashion matters more than you think.
01:08 The "Rich and Flashy" aesthetic: copies of Versace. But what Gianni created was a phenomenon.
02:45 Gianni Versace = an entire industry.
03:18 "Never forget where you come from."
05:36 A public correction. The famous "Google Images" dress worn by Jennifer Lopez was created by Donatella Versace, not Gianni.
06:25 Lesbians don't exist.
08:34 Tom Ford.
12:20 Where did Gianni get his money?
14:02 Don't be ashamed of your family's wealth. You don't have to pretend to be poor just to brag about having "made it all on your own." You have entirely different things to do with your life.
15:23 Naomi Campbell cries during an interview following the tragedy.
15:50 Talent or discipline? The wrong question. Talent AND financial support — that's the right answer.
17:36 Naomi Campbell's beautiful voice.
18:14 One more time about discipline: that painfully boring thing that makes you want to grind your teeth, imposed on you by God knows whom. What's wrong with those who consider it the key to success?
20:49 Does a woman become a "boy toy" when she dresses like this? I explain everything here. If yes, why? If not, why not?
22:05 Visionary first.
23:30 Seductive Wife: the Victoria Beckham aesthetic, long before Victoria Beckham.
24:34 To whom much is given, much will be expected. Those who are talented but genuinely have no choice will be forgiven a great deal.
V = VERSACE.
"Rich and flashy," they sneer dismissively at Gianni, usually those who have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Especially today, when artificially manufactured scarcity is used to generate hype around a "product."
Gianni's clothes, on the other hand, were genuinely limited. In the #NoGoogle series, there's a concept called a "luxury brand," where it's often unclear where something comes from or whether the production is even licensed.
But these clothes were made by an actual FASHION HOUSE. Everything began with the silkworm, quite literally. Every print was original. If they ran out of silk for a particular shirt, that shirt was simply never made again. Anywhere.
Gianni was an extraordinarily bold man. Compared with the standards of the fashion industry at the time, he was creating clothes that seemed almost otherworldly.
Here, I also share my perspective on the myths surrounding his financing, as well as the many associations and thoughts that came to me while visiting this exhibition.
A great deal can be forgiven if it allows genuine talent to flourish. And sometimes people simply don't have a choice, you know...
A great deal of money is just as much an illusion of freedom as adulthood is to a child. You think that once you grow up, you'll finally be free.
