In 1947, when the Partition of India brought fear, violence and mass migration, one Muslim man in Lahore risked his own life to save a Sikh family.
Dr. Tarnjit Singh Batalia’s family was leaving Gujranwala for India when they reached Lahore and found themselves trapped in extremely dangerous circumstances. A Muslim tehsildar, Muhammad Bashir Wark, gave the Sikh family shelter in his home and protected them for nearly two months.
When people questioned who the Sikh family was, Muhammad Bashir Wark stood in a mosque and swore on the Quran that they were his brothers and their family.
He not only protected them, but also helped them reach the border safely.
Decades later, Dr. Tarnjit Singh Batalia came to Lahore in search of the family who had saved his loved ones. When he finally met Mahmood Bashir Wark and mentioned the name Amina Bibi, Mahmood became emotional and revealed:
“Amina Bibi was my mother.”
What happened next brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
This is a true story of Partition, sacrifice, humanity and a friendship that survived for generations.
It is also a story connected to Gujranwala, Lahore and the human bonds that existed on both sides of the 1947 Partition.
May the stories of people like Muhammad Bashir Wark and Amina Bibi remind us that humanity can survive even in the darkest moments of history.
Watch the complete story and share it with someone who believes that humanity is above hatred and borders.
