Daenerys Targaryen burning King’s Landing wasn’t as sudden as it seemed.
In Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5, Daenerys hears the bells of surrender — and still chooses to burn King’s Landing. But was this truly a betrayal of her character?
This video goes back to Season 1 and traces the warnings that eventually led to The Bells: the death of Mirri Maz Duur, the crucifixion of the Meereenese nobles, the “break the wheel” philosophy, her growing certainty that she alone knew what was right, and the haunting parallels between Daenerys Targaryen and the Mad King Aerys.
The question isn't simply whether Daenerys was destined to become a tyrant.
The bigger question is:
Did Game of Thrones earn her ending — or simply rush it?
We examine Daenerys's entire character arc, the destruction of King's Landing, Tyrion's warnings, the “Burn them all” parallel, and why her final transformation can feel both inevitable and emotionally premature.
The destination may have made sense.
The problem was the journey.
Was Daenerys's downfall properly foreshadowed? Or did Season 8 move too quickly?
Tell me what you think in the comments.
