Dr Antipas preached this sermon at First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk.
In Acts 3, Peter and John were initially heading to the temple to connect with God, but something incredible happened to them during Pentecost in Acts 2. This experience totally changed their perspective on people and situations. They realized it wasn't enough to just go to the temple and have their personal time with God. They had to embrace the moment, be present, and show God's love to those outside of the religious walls. You know, those folks who are standing at the gate, feeling hopeless and lost.
So, my friend, let's not get too caught up in religious rituals that we miss out on the chance to be the light of hope to those who desperately need it. Let's seize the moment in Jesus’s name and make a difference!
“One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.“ Acts 3:1-7 NIV
