The New Cable Car to Schilthorn
The new Schilthornbahn 20XX connects Stechelberg with Mürren and continues via Birg to the summit of Schilthorn at 2,970 metres.
The most spectacular section is the direct Stechelberg–Mürren cable car. It climbs 775 metres over a distance of just 1,194 metres and reaches an incredible gradient of 159.4% – making it the steepest cable car in the world.
The extreme incline makes the ride quite an experience. At the lower station in Stechelberg, the cabins tilt so dramatically that they actually enter the station through the roof of the building – an extraordinary sight and something you don't see every day! 😁
Along the way, there are spectacular views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Mürren and the surrounding peaks of the Bernese Alps. The journey continues to Schilthorn, home of the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, made famous by the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
