One thing surprised us: the amount of time you're given to make all these decisions is FAST. We decided we weren't going to rush it. We took extra time, visited appliance stores and kitchen showrooms, and tried to think not only about the house we wanted today, but how we might use it in the future. That included decisions like stretching the lanai, planning ahead for a possible pool, and deciding which upgrades were worth doing during construction — and which ones we could tackle ourselves later. After more than 45 years in real estate, I've seen a lot of homes. But building your own dream home from the ground up is a completely different experience!
