Auto Union LA30 DRGM Audi Engine Pre heat torch Lamp WW2 Gasoline Blowtorch

This is a preheat burner for starting small engine generators.However, I don't know the details. Where on the engine should it be attached? What should it heat? If anyone knows, please let me know. The fuel is gasoline.
