Saturday brunch, Jazz at Chautauqua, September 16, 2000. DOWN IN HONKY TONK TOWN / COAL CART BLUES / EVERYBODY LOVES MY BABY/ CAKE-WALKING BABIES FROM HOME / IF WE NEVER MEET AGAIN. That this performance happened at all is thanks to Joe Boughton, a jazz-entranced visionary who knew that the music needed more public exposure than collectors playing their records would give it. He wanted the music to last and knew that perhaps the only way would be by giving musicians opportunities to be paid for playing for audiences: in Meadville, Conneaut Lake, and Chautauqua, among other venues. That I can share this touching marvel with people who understand it is thanks to Joe's children, Bill Boughton and Sarah Boughton Holt, who want his legacy and the legacies of the musicians to continue and continue to be valued.
