#Whittakers #FamilyTree #inbred They’re one of the most talked-about families on YouTube, but where did the Whittakers actually come from? In this video I trace the Whittaker family of rural West Virginia back almost 270 years, starting with an orphan born on a ship to America in 1755 and working down, generation by generation, to Betty, Ray, Lorraine, Timmy, Larry and Kenneth. Along the way we untangle the Perkins and Riggs marriages that pulled two branches of the family back together. We also see how Betty’s parents, Roy and Gracie, ended up related to each other as both first and second cousins. We meet all 15 of their children, hear the promise Betty made to her mother as a young girl, and finally put a name to the funeral Mark walked into when he first met the family in 2004. All credit for the Whittakers’ story goes to Mark Laita and his channel Soft White Underbelly, whose videos introduced the world to this family. Some stills in this video are his. The genealogy is my own research from birth records, death records and family listings. It’s told with respect for a family that, whatever the hardships, has never stopped looking after each other.
