Dry, leathery edges and a cold middle? Your leftovers were fine when you put them away. The trouble starts when you push that button. In this video I share 10 tricks for reheating leftovers so they taste like the day you made them. Number 1 is the old steam trick my mama Ruby used every night for my daddy's late supper. I'm Loretta. I'm 72, I live outside Macon, Georgia, and I cooked in a school cafeteria for 30 years. Now I cook for one, so I eat leftovers most days of the week. All you need is the microwave you already have, a small pot, and a few paper towels. Food safety: get leftovers in the refrigerator within 2 hours and eat them within 3 to 4 days. Heat soups and gravies until they boil. Reheat rice until it's steaming hot all the way through. Only use containers marked microwave safe. This video is for general cooking tips. If you follow a special diet, check with your doctor. Which leftover can you never get right? Tell me in the comments, and I might fix it in a future video. Steam brings it back. #leftovers #cookingforone #southerncooking 00:00 Introduction to reheating leftovers 02:08 Why leftovers dry out 02:55 Storing leftovers flat 03:37 The ring on the plate 04:04 Covering your plate 04:42 Half power 05:12 Stirring and resting 05:53 Reheating rice 06:35 Crispy food in the oven 07:20 Gravy and soup on the stove 07:53 Leftover meat 08:47 Mama's steam trick 10:23 Why we use full power 11:04 Cooking once, eating three times
