What is Considered Damage to Shingles?

Most insurance policies cover property for accidental and direct physical damage, unless it is otherwise excluded. When you have someone pointing out spots on a roof, you need to determine if this is damage payable under the policy. The absence of granules does not mean the shingle is actually damaged. When hail causes a bruise, fracture, tear or puncture to the shingle mat this would be considered payable damage. The reason being is, damage to the mat will shorten the service life of that shingle and it's ability to shed water. Thanks for watching!
