Kamia Bentley came to Tampa on a girls trip. She ended up in a hotel parking lot at 4 AM, sitting in the driver's seat with no keys, looking down at her phone. Then she got shot. Right arm. Back of shoulders. She prayed and asked God to cut the car on. It started. She drove away bleeding, turned around to check on everyone, made it to the hospital. Bullet fragments still in her shoulder.
The State needed testimony showing sudden brutal ambush. They got it. But they also got a witness proving the defense theory: innocent people with zero gang ties get caught in violence, and being present doesn't make you part of conspiracy.
Bentley planned Tampa girls trip with friend Aaliyah Albert. Plans changed when Aaliyah's friend Taifa McCrae came along. They ended up at Airbnb where Julio Foolio stayed. Bentley ran errands for Foolio—bought speaker for his party. Saturday night hit multiple clubs. Around 2-3 AM headed to hotel.
Taifa driving, Aaliyah passenger, Bentley in back. Aaliyah needed bathroom, Taifa left vehicle. Bentley moved to driver's seat. "I just remember looking down at my phone and I got shot." Heard lots of gunshots. She prayed, asked God to cut car on with no keys. Car started. She drove off, saw police, thought about everyone left behind, turned back. Aaliyah and Taifa came running out. "I begged them take me to hospital."
Defense asked critical questions: Know Six Block? "Group of boys." ATK? "Another group of boys." Gangs? "No." Part of either? "No." Know Alicia Andrews? "No." Was Andrews at Airbnb? "I have no idea who that is."
Defense established Bentley has no gang involvement despite being around the music. Met Yungeen Ace once or twice through family. Listens to drill rap. Does that make her violent? "No." Want to do what rappers rap about? "No." Stay at Airbnb to avoid hotel cameras? "No."
This devastates State's conspiracy theory. If Kamia Bentley—innocent 23-year-old on girls trip who got shot—had no gang ties and no knowledge of any plot despite being present at all locations, how does State prove Alicia Andrews did?
