🇰🇪 FROM FORT HALL TO THOMPSON FALLS | MURANG'A TO NYAHURURU VIA NAIROBI & GILGIL 🚗 Exploring Kenya's Historic Towns, Beautiful Highways & the New Rironi–Mau Summit Road Construction! Welcome back to Me_Chasing Horizons! Join me on another exciting road trip across Kenya as we travel from Murang'a Town (formerly Fort Hall) to Nyahururu Town (historically known as Thomson's Falls), passing through Kenol, Nairobi, Westlands, Rironi, Gilgil, and some of Kenya's most beautiful countryside. This is more than just a driving video. It's a journey through Kenya's fascinating history, colonial-era place names, changing towns, expanding highways, and breathtaking landscapes. Along the way, we'll explore the stories behind some familiar places, discover how their names came about, and witness the ongoing transformation of Kenya's road infrastructure. MURANG'A TOWN – THE HISTORIC FORT HALL Our journey begins in Murang'a Town, in the heart of Kenya's central highlands. But did you know that Murang'a was once known as Fort Hall? The name Fort Hall dates back to the British colonial period, when the town developed into an important administrative centre. Following Kenya's independence, the town became known by its indigenous name, Murang'a. As we drive through the town, I'll briefly share the story behind the names Fort Hall and Murang'a, and reflect on how the town has evolved over the years. KENOL TOWN – FROM MAKUTANO TO A BUSY HIGHWAY CENTRE Leaving Murang'a, we head towards Kenol, one of the important commercial and transport centres along the Thika–Murang'a highway. Kenol is also associated with the older name Makutano, a Swahili word meaning meeting place or junction. The area has grown into a busy trading and transport hub, serving motorists, traders, commuters, and travellers moving between Nairobi, Murang'a, Nyeri, and other parts of central Kenya. We'll take a look at the town, its road connections, and how it has transformed over time. 🏙️ NAIROBI – WESTLANDS & THE FAMOUS WAIYAKI WAY Our journey continues towards Nairobi, where we pass through the bustling Westlands area and connect with the famous Waiyaki Way. Waiyaki Way is one of Nairobi's major transport corridors, linking the city with western Kenya and the wider Northern Corridor highway network. But have you ever wondered where the name Waiyaki Way came from? The road is named after Waiyaki wa Hinga, a prominent Kikuyu leader remembered for his resistance to British colonial expansion in the late nineteenth century. As we drive along this important road, we'll briefly touch on its history while showcasing the busy highway, urban development, and changing scenery as we head towards Rironi. RIRONI–MAU SUMMIT HIGHWAY – KENYA'S CHANGING ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE One of the highlights of this road trip is our journey along sections of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway corridor, where major road improvement and expansion works are taking place. This important highway forms part of the transport route connecting Nairobi with Nakuru and western Kenya. In the video, we'll spend some time observing and showcasing sections of the road construction, the existing highway, earthworks, construction equipment, and the changing landscape. Road infrastructure is essential to Kenya's economic growth, trade, regional connectivity, and movement of people and goods. Whether you're interested in Kenya's development, highway engineering, or simply enjoy watching road trips, this section of the journey is particularly interesting. NYAHURURU – THE HISTORIC THOMSON'S FALLS TOWN Our journey finally takes us to Nyahururu, a beautiful highland town in Laikipia County. Nyahururu was historically associated with the name Thomson's Falls, named after the Scottish explorer Joseph Thomson, who visited the area in 1883. The town is famous for the spectacular Thomson's Falls waterfall on the Ewaso Narok River, one of Kenya's best-known natural attractions. Nyahururu is also known for its cool highland climate, agricultural surroundings, and beautiful countryside. And that is where our memorable journey from Fort Hall to Thomson's Falls comes to an end. ❤️ JOIN THE JOURNEY!
