ABOUT THIS FILM ____________________ New male is no stranger After examining the new owl's ID tag, I discovered that this male is no stranger to Luna. In fact, this is Shadow, one of Luna and Bomber's own offspring from 2024! But he seems determined to woo her and I watch closely as their unusual relationship develops. Learning the ropes At first, Shadow has a lot to learn about owl romance - he even steals food from Luna's nest and frequently visits without bringing her a gift of food. But in time he discovers how providing prey is an important part of his new role and gradually, he becomes a great provider - bringing Luna rat after rat, mouse after mouse and vole after vole. Will their eggs be viable? Because Luna and Shadow are so closely related, I can't help wondering whether their eggs will be viable. Four eggs are laid, but with Luna defending the nest from visiting kestrels and Shadow still learning his role, there are plenty of reasons to worry. Then, one evening, I hear something that brings huge relief: cheeping from inside the eggs. The hatching process has begun. After losing Bomber, it has been remarkable to watch Luna form a new partnership with Shadow. Now the next chapter of their story is about to begin as they prepare to raise their first brood together. Join me next time as the eggs begin to hatch and Luna and Shadow become parents.
