The Washington Island Music Festival closes with a tribute to our founders, Stephen Colburn and Marlee Sabo. The night begins, appropriately, with the oboe solo that opens the Milhaud Wind Quintet. Brahms Trio in C minor will have something to say about that! Granados’ rousing Quintet in G minor leads to our final piece, previously commissioned by the Festival, “Island Songs and Landscapes.” This popular work by Eric Ewazen is based on the poetry of the late long-time Island resident William Olson. The finale includes both the instrumentalists and community choral members and guests under the baton of our choral director Alison Vernon.
