The announcement was made by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, who highlighted India’s continued focus on wetland conservation, biodiversity protection, water security, climate resilience and local livelihoods. Sukhna Wetland, located near Chandigarh at the foothills of the Outer Himalayas, is an important habitat for resident and migratory birds and contributes to ecological balance in the region. Sauj Jheel, located in Uttar Pradesh, is a significant wetland ecosystem that supports rich biodiversity and strengthens the state’s wetland conservation network. The addition of these two sites reflects India’s growing commitment to protecting ecologically important wetlands under the Ramsar Convention. This topic is highly relevant for UPSC Prelims 2027, Environment & Ecology, Biodiversity, Wetlands, Ramsar Convention and Current Affairs. ************************************************************************** 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐓𝐮𝐛𝐞 Important 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬- 1.
