1986 Porsche bb Targa HYBRID Restoration!!

For the 2024 Porsche Restoration Challenge, Porsche Santa Clarita paid tribute to one of the boldest voices in Porsche history, Rainer Buchmann and his legendary bb Auto creations. Our canvas was a classic 1986 Targa, which we meticulously restored and transformed into a hybrid-powered homage to Buchmann’s iconic Rainbow Targa. The original bb Rainbow Targa was a radical expression of color and futurism, and we carried that same spirit into our build. We painted a vibrant neon rainbow across the body—true to the original—set against a deep black finish that makes the colors come alive. The interior was reimagined to reflect Buchmann’s blend of luxury and innovation, with subtle nods to his design language throughout. Underneath the retro-inspired exterior is a thoroughly modern engine from Ed Pink coupled with a hybrid powertrain, bringing the past and future together in a single statement. This build wasn’t just about restoration—it was about reintroducing the boldness, creativity, and the electric spirit of bb Auto for a new era and generation. Enjoy!!
