If you find an old home place in the Ozark hills with a cave mouth within sight of the porch, look at the ground between the two. Nine times out of ten, it’s empty. The old folks never built a house near a cave, and every one of them gave a different reason why. I spent thirty-one years as a game warden in the Ozarks. In this video I’m telling you the five reasons: why a cave breathes, the bad air that can put you to sleep, the ground that opens without warning, the people who used caves to hide (saltpeter diggers, moonshiners, and the Bald Knobbers), and the one reason I can’t explain. Plus the rules that keep you safe if you ever go near one. If you want more of what these hills have taught the people raised inside them, subscribe. That’s how I keep telling it. #Ozarks #Caves #Folklore #GameWarden #Missouri
