The Coronation of King George the 6th, the Father of the current Queen Elizabeth, was covered by BBC Television in 1937. There were limitations though. TV in London had only been on air for 6 months and equipment was scarce esspecially for an outside Broadcast. But TV Cameras were placed along the route the crowned King would travel. Only 10,000 people saw it and while there was no record of what actually went to air, no Kines or Videotape back then.. an enterprising BBC Cameraman set up a Film Camera behind one of the TV Camera Operaters to give an idea of what was visually captured. The Coronation of King George took place on the 12th of May 1937. There is also some reflection on how the King, George the Sixth was reluctant to undertake any Radio or Television broadcasts at the time. Somewhat explained away as the King not wanting to sensationalise his role. But with the recent release of the movie "The King's Speech".. his now openly documented speech impediment and stutter may have been the real reason as to why he was reluctant to do any form of broadcasting or public speaking other than was necessary. This documentary segment aired in the broadcast of "The History of Royal Broadcasting" on BBC 1 in November 1986.
