Watch this landscape painting come together from the first block-in to the final details while I share 5 painting tips I use throughout the process.
In this video, I focus on the decisions that make a landscape feel believable, including composition, value structure, focal points, painting water, and using edges and detail to create depth.
The 5 tips covered:
• Design the path through the painting before painting the objects
• Get the big values right before worrying about detail
• Choose a focal point and protect it
• Paint water as shapes instead of trying to paint every reflection
• Use edges and detail to create a stronger sense of depth
The goal isn't to paint every leaf, rock, or ripple. It's to give the viewer enough information for the scene to feel natural, dimensional, and like somewhere you could actually step into.

Let me know in the comments which of the five tips you found most useful.
