Rory Bremner: First Into Den Bosch | Who Do You Think You Are? UK | S6 E1

A son searches the battlefield where his father led the way. Rory Bremner follows Major Donald Bremner’s trail into occupied Den Bosch to discover the soldier he never knew. From a night assault that slipped past German lines to a window in Wilhelminaplein where a machine gun rested on a medic’s shoulder, this journey reshapes everything Rory thought he knew. In Holland, eyewitnesses recall the moment B Company moved first. In postwar Germany, an interpreter remembers dachshunds, a torn handbag, and a “ladies’ man” with surprising influence. The trail then jumps a century back to Surgeon General John Ogilvie: a trench birth delivered with a clasp knife in the Crimea, a heartbreaking farewell letter to his children, and one of Britain’s earliest cremations recorded at Woking. What connects these echoes of duty, absence and courage across generations? Watch to see how Rory pieces together a family story hidden in medals, letters and voices that refuse to fade. #RoryBremner #WhoDoYouThinkYouAre #DenBosch #FamilyHistory #WW2 #CrimeanWar #EastLancashireRegiment
