Visual Poetry — Episode 1: Isaac Levitan This visual poem is a journey through the paintings of Isaac Levitan (1860–1900), the Russian master of landscape painting known for transforming nature into deeply atmospheric, poetic expressions of mood and emotion. The idea behind this project is to bring some of the beauty of art history beyond museums, books, and traditional art audiences, and into the everyday visual world of more people. So many extraordinary paintings may never cross our path simply because we never have the opportunity to encounter them. Today, technology offers new ways to experience these works. Using AI tools and Procreate, I have gently adapted, extended, and brought Levitan’s paintings to life, combining them with music to create a continuous visual journey while trying to preserve the spirit of the originals. Finding high-quality digital versions of some of Levitan’s works was surprisingly difficult, and several paintings had dimensions unsuitable for a YouTube video. AI and Procreate also helped me carefully prepare and extend these works for the format. At the end of the video, all the original paintings used in this visual poem are presented for anyone who would like to discover them further — and perhaps one day experience them in person.
