Taylor Swift Fans Fire Back at Todd Rundgren Same Day Encore Tracks Break Records

Producer Todd Rundgren told Vulture, in an interview published September 25, 2026, that Taylor Swift is the 'apotheosis of mediocrity,' repeating criticism he first made in 2022 on Rick Rubin's Broken Record podcast. The same day the Vulture piece went live, Swift released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, and Billboard reported the lead track became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day, with all four new tracks taking the top four spots on Spotify's Top 50 Global chart. The timing arrived three and a half months after Swift's June 11, 2026 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as its youngest member. Billboard and Yahoo covered the fallout on September 27 and September 28, 2026, as fans compared Rundgren's remarks to earlier comments from Damon Albarn. #taylorswift #toddrundgren #showgirl 🎬 CHAPTERS 00:00 – Todd Rundgren Slams Taylor Swift & The Shocking Record Release Timing 00:37 – 5.
