Hi, everyone. Aidan here with etrailer. And today, we're gonna be taking a look at and later be showing you how to install this REDARC Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller on our 2024 Toyota 4Runner. Now, a brake controller like this makes a ton of sense. If you're towing a trailer with a seven-way that has brakes, you need a brake controller. And this option from REDARC is awesome because it's gonna work with a wide range of trailers up to three axles, electric, or electric over hydraulic brakes. And in my opinion, this is the cleanest way to install a brake controller, because this knob is all you see. That's gonna give you your settings to adjust your gain, to make it more or less sensitive, and give you your manual override by pressing it in. Now, this kit comes with almost everything you need for that super clean install. For one, our 4Runner has the factory tow package, so it's already got the seven way in the back and it's a plug-and-play harness that's included in this kit to make the brake controller a very quick and simple installation. The only thing you'll need to do is run a ground wire, which there's plenty of places in here to do. But you've got these factory knockouts periodically throughout the dash, and we used this one in the bottom to install our brake controller. If you want it to look just like this and be a direct replacement for those factory knockout panels on your 4Runner, that is a separate piece. You can find that here at etrailer and I would strongly recommend picking it up because it just makes the install extremely clean and pretty much effortless. This is gonna be a proportional brake controller, which, in my opinion, is really the only way to go with a brake controller. That's gonna mean that as you step on the brakes in your vehicle, it's gonna match that pressure on your trailer. So, in an emergency situation where you need to slam on your brakes, your trailer's gonna match that. Or when we're coming to a very slow and controlled stop at a stoplight or a stop sign, it's not gonna slam on the trailer brakes in a disproportionate way. The other thing with this is there is a user mode. They call it their off-road mode. So, you can get it set and applied to whatever you want it to be and it won't necessarily follow that proportional pattern. So, if you are taking a trailer off road, that mode can be really helpful for you. Now, as for that installation, it is really straightforward, everything's pretty much plug and play, but the one thing I'll say is that it's cramped. For as big as the 4Runner is, the foot well under here, it just doesn't leave the most room. And if you're a little bit of a bigger guy like me, you might find certain parts pretty uncomfortable or just hard to manage. Aside from that though, if you decided you wanna tackle that install yourself, follow along and we'll show you how we got it on. We're gonna start our installation off near the driver's seat here. And we're gonna pop out this bottom factory panel just using a flathead screwdriver to push in at the top and pull it out. This is where our switch for our brake controller's gonna go. This is the perfect spot for it 'cause it'll just pop right in whenever we get the knob in there. We're gonna take the knob end of our brake controller. Doesn't have the outer face on it yet, we're gonna wait for that, and our smaller cord, and just go ahead and plug it in real quick. We're gonna put the white plug to the white end here. (cord end clicks) Make sure you hear it click into place. And I'm gonna feed the other end of this wire down through that pocket that we just exposed and go underneath for the rest of the install.
