People who fantasize the most about their goals often do the least to reach them.
That sounds backwards. We're told to visualize the win, picture the dream job, feel the success before it happens. But the research points the other way: the "finish-line movie" playing in your head quietly drains the energy you needed for the actual work.
In this video we go through all three traps — no watering down:
1. The Finish-Line Movie — you picture the destination and never the starting point, so your brain collects the reward early and you never build the map.
2. The Drill Sergeant — you attack yourself after every failure, until failure hurts so much you start avoiding the goal itself.
3. The Easy Feeling — you quit the moment practice feels clumsy, because you mistake difficulty for proof you don't have what it takes.
Then the three fixes that replace them: mental contrasting (the WOOP method — Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan), self-compassion after failure, and deliberately choosing "desirable difficulties" instead of the comfortable version of practice.
This isn't an anti-dreaming video. Dreaming isn't the enemy — a dream with no map is. Expectation predicts effort. Fantasy can steal it.
The goal was never the problem. The map was.

WHO THIS IS FOR
If you've set the same goal three years running, if January motivation dies by February, if you can picture your future in perfect detail but can't get yourself to start — this is about the gap between the picture and the plan.
Comment the goal you keep re-dreaming but never starting. Let's go through every single one.
