🪔 Thecho Mataya Jatra | Tradition, Culture & Satire 🇳🇵 Thecho Mataya Jatra is one of the vibrant traditional festivals of the Newa community, celebrated in Thecho, Godawari Municipality–12, Lalitpur. Held every year on the day after Gai Jatra, this festival brings together traditional rituals, music, dance, cultural performances, and the unique heritage of the local community. In this vlog, I take you through the lively streets of Thecho to experience the colors, sounds, traditions, and cultural performances of Mataya Jatra. One of the highlights of the festival is the Lakhe dance, followed by traditional Newa performances, Haku Patasi and Gunyo Cholo, Dhime music, and the Baukhi Daygu ritual, which is traditionally performed to ward off evil spirits from entering the settlement. What makes Thecho's Mataya Jatra even more special is the way traditional culture is combined with satire. Different groups presented performances highlighting issues such as the decline of traditional Dafa Bhajan, disappearing traditional water mills, young people leaving Nepal for employment abroad, political leadership, and the loss of agricultural land.
