Just as we start setting up our tent, the rain on the tent starts to fall. Heavy rain, a flooded campsite, and an inflatable tent that was already soaked before we got it up — tonight's overnight near Coolville, Ohio turned into "Humidville" real fast. 🌧️⛺ We pulled into a swamp resort that had just been underwater — mud-covered leaves, standing water in the low spot, and that wearing-the-weather humidity that soaks you before the rain does. Forecast said rain by afternoon. It hit the second we arrived. Thunder, lightning, and a site still draining. This is honest heavy rain camping & storm camping with no shortcuts: the struggle is real, the mud is everywhere, and the payoff is a bowl of 3 Meat Cowboy Stew under a tin pavilion while lightning cracks all around. This is off-grid tent camping with an inflatable tent that's supposed to float, a wet/dry vac rescue, solar + BougeRV AC to make the tent breathable, and Pioneer Woman cowboy stew (beef, bacon + kielbasa) cooked over fire as the storm rolls back in for dinner. WHAT YOU'LL SEE (53-min storm camp): • Scouting high ground on a flooded site + where we parked the inflatable tent • Hardest inflatable tent setup yet — rain weight on the roof, water pouring inside • Vacuuming puddles with a battery wet/dry vac (first time we've needed it) + towel dry & venting • BougeRV AC on solar — condensate, intake/exhaust, and building an oasis in 100% humidity • Coffee in Humidville, wolf spiders, paw paws, and fire with dry wood from host Rick • 3 Meat Cowboy Stew over open fire — beef, bacon, kielbasa & onions • Dinner and a storm under the pavilion tin roof — wind, heavy rain, lightning • Midnight siren at 12AM, radar check (42% at 9AM → 60% at 10AM) + packing out early • Muddy teardown & why the site flooded before we arrived + a stowaway mouse we saved STAKES + HONEST OUTCOME: We were offered an Airbnb and stayed. It was flooded, humid and unpredictable — exactly why we come. It's peaceful here. That's why we come. Even wearing the weather and watching the low spot rise, there's nothing like rain on the tent and hot stew while the storm does its thing.
