What role do parents and community systems play in shaping a young person's future?

Ebinehita Iyere's story reminds us that lasting change rarely happens in isolation. As a young person, she describes herself as rebellious despite experiencing different interventions. What ultimately made the difference was the unwavering commitment of her parents, alongside systems that continued to support rather than abandon her. Today, she leads an organisation called Milk Honey Bees, drawing on her lived experience to mentor and empower young women facing similar challenges. Her journey highlights an important lesson: effective parenting and positive social systems are complementary, not competing. Families, schools, faith organisations, community groups, and support services each have a role in creating environments where young people can overcome adversity and realise their potential.
