There's no better way to explore Alaska's Kenai Peninsula than jumping in a Super Cub with a few good friends and seeing where the day takes you! What started as a simple flight to meet up with friends for lunch turned into a full day of Alaska bush flying, checking out old airstrips, landing along rivers, exploring mountain valleys, and making a couple of unsuccessful attempts to catch some fish. We kick things off at Lake Hood in Anchorage, where Gerry and I meet up before heading out to explore. Our first stop is along the Chickaloon River, where we find a spot to put the Cubs down and try our luck fishing. The landing works out great, but getting to the fish is another story! From there, we head to Big Indian, an old Alaska airstrip that had become overgrown before being cleared and reopened a few years ago. Gerry is still getting familiar with his new Super Cub, so we take a look at the strip before he brings it in for a great landing. We check out the public-use cabin before heading deeper into the mountains. Next comes one of my favorite parts of the entire flight — cruising along Swan Lake, surrounded by mountains with incredible views in every direction. Eventually, we make our way to Quartz Creek near Cooper Landing, where we meet up with four more Super Cubs and their pilots. From there, we walk over to Cooper Landing Brewery for some good food, cold drinks, and a chance to catch up with everyone before heading back into the air.But the day isn't over yet! On the way back toward Anchorage, we stop across from Girdwood for one more attempt at catching some fish. Once again, the fish win! A couple of failed fishing trips, some great landings, incredible scenery, and a whole lot of fun flying with good friends. *Just another incredible day exploring Alaska by Super Cub!* If you enjoy Alaska bush flying, off-airport landings, backcountry aviation, and exploring places most people only get to see from the ground, you're in the right place. *Subscribe to Chaos Cub* and come along for more Alaska flying adventures, remote airstrips, mountain flying, and everything in between.
