A Rainy Day Masterpiece: Ryan and Emily at The Bull Run Ryan and Emily’s wedding at The Bull Run in Shirley, MA, was a perfect example of how a relaxed, intimate atmosphere can turn a rainy day into a photographic dream. With about 80 of their closest friends and family, the day felt less like a formal event and more like a joyful, easy-going family celebration.
Family-Centered Moments The couple’s two children were at the heart of the day, and some of the most moving images came from their involvement. The photojournalistic nature of the day allowed for beautiful, unscripted moments—whether it was a child playfully peeking out from under the layers of Emily’s wedding dress or a tender, quiet moment shared between Emily and a child while both were nestled under a delicate lace veil .
A Ceremony Under the Bridge When the rain moved the ceremony to the venue’s historic covered bridge, it provided a stunning and unique architectural backdrop. The wooden rafters and warm string lights created a cozy, high-end environment for their vows. The bridge also gave the children a great space to express their excitement, leading to an incredible shot of one of them jumping high in the air right on the ceremony runner .
Creative Portraits and Scenic Views The bridge acted as a perfect natural studio, shielding the couple from the rain while providing soft, even lighting for their portraits. We captured a range of creative imagery, from intimate black-and-white close-ups of Ryan and Emily to wide shots that used the bridge's timber framing to perfectly center the couple . We even took advantage of the unique ceiling architecture for a dramatic, low-angle shot of the ring exchange.
A High-Energy Finale The reception was a total blast. Despite the smaller guest list, the dance crowd was phenomenal. The children were a huge part of the energy on the floor, making for a night filled with genuine laughter and fun. It was the perfect combination of candid storytelling and interesting portraits. Ryan and Emily, thank you for being so easy-going and letting me be a part of your day!
