08:52 Ayurveda daily regimen - the importance
Brahma muhurta –
Ayurveda is a science dedicated for the maintenance of life, which is done in two ways: by the maintenance of positive health and healing with medicines. To maintain this positivity Ayurveda recommends a scheduled regimen for each day. A daily regimen is what you can do for yourself for a healthy life, and it begins with waking up early in the Braahma muhurta.
Dantadhavanam –
After evacuating we need to do danthadhavanam that is brushing our teeth.
Oral hygiene is inevitable for the maintenance of proper health. Herbs with sweet, salty, and sour tastes are not advised as they cause decay of enamel use continuously. Herbal twigs which are Astringent, Acrid, and bitter are advised. We commonly used twigs of Neem and Mango leaves.
Anjanam –
After taking care of our teeth and tongue, let us take care of our eyes.
“Sarva indhriyanam nayanam pradhanam”
The eye is said to be the most important sense organ.
Let us protect our eyes with anjana – The application of herbal collyrium on our eyes. Daily use of collyrium not only keeps our eyes healthy but it enhances the beauty of our eyes. It is applied on the inner part of the lower eyelid from the inner corner to the outer with the help of fingertips or with a thin rod like applicators.Daily application of anjana will sharpens and clear the vision.
Nasyam –
Next comes Nasya instillation of oil through nostrils. Generally, we use 2 drops of Anu thailam or plain sesame oil for this. It cleanses, purifies, and strengthens the nasal passages and also allows to breathe full and easily.
Gandoosham -
After cleansing the nose and sinuses the excess sputum that gets accumulated in the mouth is cleansed with GANDUSHA – Holding of Liquid medicines in the mouth. Any oil or medicated decoction is held mouthful for a specific period until there is lacrimation or nasal discharge, and is then spitted out. The regular use of this strengthens our jaws and face muscles, clears and sharpens the voice, and helps to have a better taste perception.
Dhoomam –
Gandoosha is followed by dhoomana that is the inhalation of herbal smoke. The smoke should be taken through the nose and is to be expelled only through the mouth. This is very effective in the prevention of disease, promotion of health, and treatment of upper clavicular disorders.
Tamboolam –
Just after the dhoomapana, Tambula charvana – Chewing of beetle leaf is recommended. Beatle leaves are to be chewed alone or add spices like Cloves, Cardamom, Nutmeg, and Edible camphor. The use of this will prevent the bad odor, improve the complexion of our skin, and be a good digestant.
Abhyangam -
The daily routine continues with Abhyanga. Ayurveda advises daily oil application or abhyanga for healing, relaxation, and treating of diseases. The oil is to be applied preferably lukewarm in the same direction of the hair follicles, with gentle comforting pressure. Every time you do abhyanga make sure that you apply oil specifically on the crown of the head, ears, and under the feet.
Vyayamam-
Abhyangam is to be followed with vyayamam (Exercise). Generally, everyone equates exercise with fitness. Ayurveda has a quite different thought on this. Regular exercise improves circulation, digestion, and elimination. Exercise should be done daily using half of our strength which means until sweat forms on the forehead armpits & spine. In all other seasons except winter and spring, it should be done using even lesser strength.
Udwarthanam –
After a moderate exercise and before a bath Udwarthanam – Powder massage is adviced. Massage can be done either with dry powder or is to be mixed a medium.
Snanam
Udwarthanam is followed with snanam /bathing. Ayurveda recommends warm water bath below neck. But don’t use warm water for head it is not good for eyes and hair. Bath should not be taken immediately after a meal as it causes indigestion.
This is an ayurvedic short way to practice a daily regimen. Those who follow this will attain longevity, health, prosperity, fame and above all, heavenly abode at the end.
