In Acts 17, Paul’s spirit is provoked as he sees Athens full of idols. He reasons in the synagogue and marketplace until Epicurean and Stoic philosophers call him a “babbler” for preaching Jesus and the resurrection. Taken to the Areopagus (Mars Hill), he begins with their altar “To the unknown god” and boldly proclaims the one true God — Creator and Lord of heaven and earth — who does not dwell in temples made by hands. A powerful confrontation between human philosophy and divine revelation.
