To regain a human form, she entices Rebecca to her, and then ensnares a young girl, Mary, who is fleeing through the forest with her brother. To counter Asmodis, Ivanhoe calls upon Fingal, who tells him he needs to find the fabled golden Axe of Jurgen, to attack the tree without stengthening Asmodis. Mordour learns of this, and arrages an ambush at Jurgen's ruined castle. Baron Du Bois and Rowena ride out from Prince John's castle to warn Ivanhoe, but arrive only when the trap has been sprung, and a fight is underway. They beat off the attackers, seize the Axe and ride back to the Black Tree to face Asmodis.
